It is with profound respect and deep admiration that ITF England announces a historic milestone for our martial arts community. Master Kim Anderson has been promoted to the rank of IX Dan, the highest echelon attainable in ITF Taekwon-Do, and is now formally honored with the distinguished title of Grand Master.
With this promotion, Grand Master Anderson makes history as only the fourth Grand Master of ITF England, joining an elite group of pioneers who have reached the absolute pinnacle of the art within our nation.
This prestigious promotion crowns 52 years of unwavering dedication to the art- spanning 47 years as a Black Belt and 18 years of exceptional leadership as a Master. Grand Master Anderson began his journey in August 1974, earning his 1st Degree Black Belt in March 1979 under the guidance of the Honourable Grand Master MacCallum.
A Legacy of Leadership and Service
Throughout his illustrious career, Grand Master Anderson has served the ITF community with exemplary integrity, significantly shaping the development of Taekwon-Do across the United Kingdom:
Championship Host: Successfully organized and hosted both the English Championships and the British Championships.
Organizational Pillar: Maintained over 50 years of dedicated membership across the UKTA, UKTF, and TKD Impact.
Executive Governance: Served as Chair of the UKTF Board (1985–1990) and Vice President of ITF England for two consecutive terms (2012–2016).
Steadfast Guidance: Provided vital leadership as a Senior Instructor on the ITF England Masters Committee through the challenges of the pandemic and beyond.
Club Leadership: Contributed 30 years of invaluable service to the development of TKD Impact.
Humility and the Moral Culture of the Do
Renowned across the nation for his extraordinary humility, Grand Master Anderson has never sought personal recognition. Instead, his quiet influence has mentored and inspired generations of black belts, international competitors, and instructors.
Central to his teaching is a profound commitment to the moral culture of the Do. For Grand Master Anderson, Taekwon-Do transcends physical sport; it is a lifelong path of character development where discipline, respect, and integrity are refined alongside technical precision.
His philosophy perfectly reflects the teachings of the Founder, General Choi Hong Hi:
"The mind and body are considered to be inseparable."
General Choi emphasized this essential unity of physical technique and moral development by intentionally linking Taekwon and Do with a hyphen. Grand Master Anderson has spent his lifetime embodying this very creed.
A Well-Deserved Honor
We extend our highest compliments and deepest gratitude to Grand Master Kim Anderson. His perseverance, wisdom, and selfless service have left an indelible legacy within our art. The entire ITF England and global Taekwon-Do community celebrates this monumental achievement.
Congratulations, Grand Master Kim Anderson, IX Dan - the 4th Grand Master of ITF England.
